Hi mate
I was told a great bit of advice on another forum and have not had 1 spambot at all. Go to the ACP>>>users and groups under users click on custom profile fields next to create new field, select dropdown box>>>click create new field in the identifaction, type antispam click no for public display field click display on registration screen click required field Field name/title presented to the user:typein Anti Spam Field description: type in Are you a spammer or bot (If not select No) Entries:type in Yes then underneath type in No click profile type options set both the values on the next page to Yes on the next page just ignore it and press save you will now have this displayed on the registration page, as all phpbb forums have the same registration options spam bots are set up to cover all the fields apart from changing the drop box, so when they register the drop box will not be altered and they will keep getting refused. As an extra precaution you can add a questions to be answered. what i did is create myself as another user to test these out and register you will need to change the option in user registration settings (general tab) to yes in "allow e-mail address re use" but remember to change it back to no once you are done. If you want to check current inactive members you can use the search option at FSpamlist - Forum Spam - Forum Ban List It will search by either, username, isp or email address. |

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your advice, friend. It's really useful. But now we're trying to check spambots by using a confirm button, like this: ![]() Anyone who use phpBB3 forum could add an Boolean field as his tip. But don't worry, we'll add more features into phpBB and phpNuke to prevent spammers, spambots. ![]() Thanks, Paul.

By the way,
I want to remind phpBB3 forums owners. You can ban one or more e-mail addresses by using "Ban e-mails" feature at "USERS AND GROUPS" tab. Thanks for reading.

Good Evening,
Is the 'confirmation' screen a permanent thing as it seems now that the RSS feed from my forum (http://transmissionsfromthevoid.freeforum.ca/index.php) doesnt work? Would this spambot fix have caused this? Thanks in advance |

You advice is very useful. It's very hard to accept that your email or your forum has been attacked. They spam everytime and everywhere. Sometime, they use your email contact list to send to your friends. It's too bad. But I think we can use a lot of softwares and services, like Microsoft Outlook, Gmail... to protect against spam. And we should be prevent mailware, trojan... too. Have a nice day.

The ideal solution is very convenient for non-spam bots, you (and me) and very effective in keeping the spammers spam (porn and Viagra salesmen.) With a little JavaScript, you can for example, the code of the technical image to the user in the event that the spam does not do JavaScript. And for those few poor fools who do not have Javascript, but they are human beings (eg, lynx users, blind, paranoid) that fill the captcha.
