If for example your forum was an art forum where your members show of their artwork you could add something like this

META Keywords:
your art watercolours pastels oil painting photography Tutorials Galleries
(Define the search keywords for the search engines spiders)

META Description:
The art forum is a place for you to show off your artwork to the world, the forums contents include tutorials,tips and help from others who share your love of art. Monthly competitions to enter, help and advice for beginners. etc etc
(Describe your forum in more than 250 words)

META Abstract:
artforum.freeforum.ca is a free to join art forum which displays members art,galleries,helpful advice and tuition available for the expert or novice.
(The Abstract Tag defines a brief overview of your website (max 100 words)
