Congrats to DxLow which has been promoted from Moderator to Super Moderator.  Ever since joining the site, he's been extremely helpful and active.  Therefore, the promotion was well deserved!

Also, MichaelD has decided to rejoin the Moderator team now that his schedule has been freed up a bit.  Welcome back!

Thanks to all the Moderators for all your help!

We're very happy to announce the new partnership between Noonhost and FreeForum.ca.  This partnership will bring together two of the larger free forum providers so that we can share our resources and provide more comprehensive services for our users.

The first step will be in merging our Support forum with the FreeForum.ca Support forum, so that there will be one central location for all users.  This will be done shortly and may result in some temporary glitches.  We appreciate your patience during the move and thank you for using our services.

News and Announcements / Server slow downs
February 19, 2007, 07:04:34 PM
Over the past few days, Noonhost / FreePHPNuke has been experiencing some periodic slow downs.  We've traced the problem to the "fungames" module of FreePHPNuke.  We've disabled the module until it can be fully investigated.  Therefore, the server should be running smoothly again.  Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your reports.

News and Announcements / Server Update
December 05, 2006, 10:33:01 AM
As many of you may have noticed, we had been experiencing some server slow downs over the past month.  We traced it back to a server hardware issue which was resolved.  However, we realized that we should probably upgrade our servers in order to avoid any future problems.

We have completed the transfer as of yesterday.  Therefore, your forum may have experienced some downtime during the server transfer (over the past few days).  We apologize for the inconvenience.

The new server is much larger and much more powerful, which should increase the speed of all the forums and have plenty of room for future growth.  We hope that most will agree that this move was the best thing for your forums in the long run.  Enjoy the new power of your forums!

News and Announcements / Server Maintenance
November 15, 2006, 09:42:41 PM
We've been experiencing some problems with the hardware on one of our servers.  As a result, many of the user forums have been experiencing some temporary slow downs over the past few days.  We've corrected the problem and believe the issue should be resolved.  However, please report any issues on the Support forums as we will continue to monitor the server performance.  We apologize for any inconvenience resulting from this.

Please join me in welcoming our newest Moderator, HELL_VAPOR.  Since he's shown that he's knowledgable in both phpBB and phpnuke, and has already been very helpful around the forums, it seemed like a logical choice.  Congrats to HELL_VAPOR!

p.s. Happy Labor Day!!!

News and Announcements / Read here first!!!
August 22, 2006, 04:24:34 PM
Attention all Noonhost and FreePHPNuke users,

Welcome to Noonhost/FreePHPNuke.  It's great to have you here and we hope you enjoy using our free services.  I just wanted to run down some housekeeping issues before you get started.

As you know, Noonhost/FreePHPNuke is absolutely free.  To make up some of the expenses, we place Google ads on your site (not intended for profits, only intended to make up some of the expenses).  These ads should eventually display ads related to the content of your site and are designed to be as unintrusive as possible.  Please do not attempt to interfere with the display of these ads at any time.

The Terms of Service can be found at http://www.noonhost.com/terms.html .  Please review them periodically as they are subject to change.

Noonhost/FreePHPNuke is intended for beginners who would like to have their own forums, but without the hassles and technical efforts associated with paid hosting.  Because it's free, the forums provided are relatively basic and without many added features.  If you don't mind having a basic site, this is probably the best place for you since it's free regardless of how large your forum grows.  However, if you prefer to have special features added to your site, you would probably be happier with paid hosting.

Having said that, please do not sign up for a free forum and expect to have paid services, such as the addition of whatever mods/hacks.  I can tell you right now that Noonhost/FreePHPNuke will NOT add individual mods/hacks.  We did this in the past and it became chaotic creating many bugs and using up many resources in ALL the forums.

In addition, although we regularly backup ALL forums collectively, we cannot provide individual forum backups.

If you would like to make your site unique, you can choose from a number of available themes and layouts.  However, this should be done on your own as our Support team is not set up to assist with these types of services.

You can also read some articles written in our User Guides and Forum Manuals forum for tips on how to manage your forum.

And finally, you can search these forums for advice and helpful tips from other members.  After all, since this is a free product, the support is meant to come from other members.  Therefore, once you get the hang of things, please feel free to visit the Support forums to pass along some advice to other members, just as they once did for you

If there appears to be technical difficulties which are beyond a users capabilities, our Support team monitors these forums and will try to provide assistance.  However, please understand that everyone on the Noonhost / FreePHPNuke staff is here on a volunteer basis with other obligations and priorities.  Therefore, please only use the Noonhost / FreePHPNuke staff for technical issues which can't be answered by other users, and please don't expect immediate replies.

Again, if you are looking for immediate and customized services, we would highly suggest paid hosting.  If, however, you don't mind some of the setbacks mentioned in exchange for free and basic services, Noonhost / FreePHPNuke might be the perfect place for you!  That being the case, we gladly welcome you to the NoonHost / FreePHPNuke community and hope you enjoy your stay!

We've added a new feature which will help your forum get more traffic.  It's the newly added, user-adjustable, meta tags.  Meta tags are special codes used by search engine bots to obtain information about your forum.  These meta tags can greatly improve your search engine rankings over time (several months) resulting in better traffic.

How to adjust your meta tags:[LIST=1]
  • Log into your forum as the admin
  • Go to Forum Administration Control Panel (Admin CP) -> Tab 'GENERAL' -> 'Extra Configuration' (under 'BOARD CONFIGURATION')
  • Add relevant keywords, separated by commas (do not repeat the same word more than 3 times or it will be considering spam and ignored by bots).
  • Add a relevant description of the site, which will likely be displayed on search engines
  • Add a relavent abstract (similar to description, but shorter)
Other tips for helping your rankings includes having the keywords appear on your website, including in the description and abstract.  For example, if your website was about "baseball", your site could have the following:[LIST=1]
  • Title = Baseball forum
  • Description = The baseball forum discusses all aspects of baseball
  • Keywords = baseball, Yankees, Dodgers, homerun, baseball teams
  • Abstract = Forum about baseball
  • Forums = General Baseball topics, baseball teams, baseball rules, favorite baseball players
Within a few months, your forum should move up in the search engine ranks and draw more traffic  8) .
