phpBB3 Manuals and Guides / How to change CAPTCHA
March 20, 2011, 04:47:22 AM
One problem many have is their members struggle to register because the CAPTCHA is too hard to read, here we will explain how to make it easier.
Go to ACP > General > CAPTCHA module settings

You will see on the page a preview of how the CAPTCHA currently looks

click configure

Making the CAPTCHA easier
1 click No
2 Keep both these to 25
You can click on preview to see how it will look before pressing submit.

Making the CAPTCHA harder
This is not really advisable to make it too hard as you may loose new members as a result !
1 click Yes
2 increase the values
you can also use the lower case/ shapes to make it harder

Why can't i disable the CAPTCHA.

Although there is an option to disable the CAPTCHA  this is not possible to do.
For your forums safety from spam this feature can not be turned off.

phpBB3 Manuals and Guides / How to add a poll
March 19, 2011, 09:51:48 AM
Adding a poll to your forum is very easy to do

On your posting page you will need to
1 add the poll subject title
2 add a little information in the message box
3 ask the question
4 list the options .....you will need to put these on seperate lines

After pressing submit your poll should look like this

Why do i get invalid poll message ?
If you get a message telling you your poll is invalid it will most probably be down to the style you are using.....try to use another style....

Why can't my members vote ?
If your members can't vote in a poll or create one and you can it may be down to the permissions.
Go to Acp > permissions > groups forum permissions
1 standard access allows your users to vote but not create polls
2 selecting standard access +polls will allow your use's to create polls as well as voting
3 advanced permissions.....you can change options here as well

phpBB Support Forum / Back ups
February 02, 2011, 09:35:50 AM
Hi
I have noticed i am no longer able to do back ups any more (i had made several
on my forum since starting) this is not a problem but was wondering how often back ups are made ?

My forum has a lot of useful tutorials and help topics that i wouldn't wish to loose if ever there was a problem, i had a couple of months of posts go on another forum i had because the host didn't do back ups as often as i thought, i know you are more professional than they were but i wouldn't want to loose a lot of stuff again.

phpBB Support Forum / Mod request
December 30, 2010, 02:31:57 PM
Hi
Is there any chance of a couple of mods being added to my forum ?
the first is a thanks button, as we give advice and tutorials often the members just read them and leave,it would be nice to have this then we could see the appreciation from other members.

the second is a top 5 mod, so when we log in can see the last 5 posts made,5 newest members, 5 most active members.

phpBB Support Forum / Back ups
December 09, 2010, 11:01:35 AM
Hi
I have been looking in the ACP and notice i can do my own back ups which is something not availabe in the last forum i had (differant host)
As i am still starting out and have few members at present i am looking at all the options to do at a later date, one being the back ups,i have a friend who is an administrator on another forum i use regular who has said he will do them for me.
The problem is that although i can set his usergroup to Admin and give founder status it says he does not have permission.
I have looked everywhere to find out if it is possible for him to do it but can't find any answers.
Is it possible or will i have to give him my admin details and let him do it that way.

General Discussion / Prevent Spambots
December 08, 2010, 10:56:43 AM
Hi mate
I was told a great bit of advice on another forum and have not had 1 spambot at all.
Go to the ACP>>>users and groups
under users click on custom profile fields
next to create new field, select dropdown box>>>click create new field
in the identifaction, type antispam
click no for public display field
click display on registration screen
click required field

Field name/title presented to the user:typein Anti Spam
Field description: type in Are you a spammer or bot (If not select No)
Entries:type in Yes then underneath type in  No
click profile type options
set both the values on the next page to Yes
on the next page just ignore it and press save

you will now have this displayed on the registration page, as all phpbb forums have the same registration options spam bots are set up to cover all the fields apart from changing the drop box, so when they register the drop box will not be altered and they will keep getting refused.
As an extra precaution you can add a questions to be answered.
what i did is create myself as another user to test these out and register
you will need to change the option in user registration settings (general tab) to yes in "allow e-mail address re use" but remember to change it back to no once you are done.

If you want to check current inactive members you can use the search option at  FSpamlist - Forum Spam - Forum Ban List
It will search by either, username, isp or email address.

phpBB Support Forum / phpBB 3.0.8
November 22, 2010, 06:50:16 PM
Just notice in the ACP that my forum has been upgraded to the latest version 3.0.8 is there any thing new with this version or not ?
Not being that technical wondered why the upgrade and if there's anything or changes we need to be aware of.
