Quote from: Ken Ganshirt;515496That was the first thing I checked. When I went to the Forum Administration panel it said there are no forums. I don't know how I can change permissions when there are no forums to change them on.

EDIT: Okay I went and checked again and now the forums are there.

I have to say that the new administrator "features" are really really awful. Way more complicated than it needs to be. Version 2 is so much easier to manage forums and users. Will we have the option to not switch to Version 3? I really hate the new administrator stuff. It takes three times as many steps .. sometimes even more .. to do the same thing you can do in one or two steps in Version 2.

When I was new and just setting this forum up a few months ago it took me less time to set things up from nothing on Version 2, without ever having worked with phpBB, than it did just now to reset all the forum and moderator permissions. I still don't think I have it right and I won't know until I read all the new documentation .. something I did not need to do when getting set up with Version 2. Isn't there a simpler version of the administration control panel for those of us who don't need all that complexity?

I'm sorry, we can't have both of phpBB2 and phpBB3. However, it will keep an eye on your request. Thanks.

Quote from: Canadian Warrior;515501Good morning beautiful ADMINS. Hope you have had your coffee this morning, looks like its going to be another long day. :)

Id like to know if the permissions we have set in phpbb2 will switch over to phpbb3.

If we have to reset our permissions up. What would be the best way to set permissions for those that belong to gruops and those that donot belong to groups. Ive been playing around with it and so far only ones that can see some the forums are guests and i cannot see them unless i logg out :S

Also the team link at the bottom it doesnt show me listed as an admin or founder, will this be corrected once the switch over?

Thank you for your time.

Some permissions will be lost. However, we will keep an eye on this request.

For the team list, it works for me. I just create an account on your phpBB3 test forum, please approve it so i can check it  .

Trying to figure out the admin panel on the new place is a complete nightmare.  Way too complicated for me and reminds me horribly about the time when I started the current forum - and that was way easier than this new one - and that was a thing I never hoped to have to go through again. :(

I want to apologize for how selfish I sounded when I made my complaints about the new administration control panel in Version 3. I don't change my feelings about it but I want to share the point of view that will matter to you. The new admin control panel is going to increase your support problems by many times. It is too difficult to accomplish even the really simple things now.

Thanks for understanding and helping us along.

I've noticed that phpBB2 had these controls for administrators such as: a delete button, IP button, edit button, PM, WWW, and the like.

I've noticed that phpBB3 does not offer these so that messages may be maintained.

I found all those features in the phpbb3 as well, just not shown the same way.  I'm currently using the subsilver2 theme - may be different on other themes, but haven't checked yet.  Instead of in the upper right corner of the post box, it is in the lower right, shown as a small ! and a ? and a X box, just above the edit and quote box.

One thing I'm interested in knowing.  Will this conversion do anything to the slow load times and stalling/downtime of the forums?

Yep okies, i have no idea what im doing wrong, as stubborn as i am im still working on it lol

Once were switched over what happens to the work we've done on our temp sites ? Im suspecting it will all be replaced with our phbpp2 forums as this would be a good thing considering i have threads lost and showing up elsewhere and no idea how to get em back to the orig forums lol

Main problem im having is setting up my ADMIN correctly as right now i cant go into threads and delete any posts so im assuming its not realizing im the owner yet lol

Is there an ONLINE manual or tutorial thats set up to use? The FAQ one doesnt really tell me a whole lot for being computer illeterate lol

Will a new back-up file be made and used for the conversion?  I'm asking as the one used for the test was an old one dating back to around late June 2007.  Also, will we be given a heads-up as to which day the conversion will take place?

Since the URL to the forum will be different, will we have to change all the in-forum links linking to other threads and sections within the forum, after the conversion?  That'll be one hell of a work.  Is it really necessary to have the phpbb3 in the URL and then simply keep the regular URL we've always had?

Slowly beginning to learn the phpbb3 admin panel and especially the forum and user permission, but hot damn is it complicated.  YIKES.  Always hate complex, when it has been seen to be able to be done simpler.

Additional to the smileys that has already been found for the forum, which seems to be transferred over pretty well, it would be appreciated that these additional ones be added to the availables:

EDIT (a few more):

I want to know if all these glitches that are being reported including the ones I've mentioned will be resolved before switching over.

Your forums will be unavailable during the real conversion, but we will try to minimize it.

The conversion will delete your original data so if something wrong, we can fix or switch all forums back to phpBB2.

For phpBB3 documentations and tutorials, please refer to phpBB • phpBB 3.0 Olympus Documentation and phpBB • Flash tutorials.

EDIT (a few more):
I will continue to do some more test conversion to fix reported problems. When we will convert your forums, we will send email to you then you can back up you r forums if you want. But it's not necessary because we will do it and the converter will not delete any data from your original forums.

Your forum URLs will not be changed. It still forumname.freeforum.ca or forumname.freeforum.ca. Only test conversion (such as this test) change forum URLs.

All current avatars and smilies will be transfered also. It will be backed up before the conversion started.
