403 Forbidden Error

Whenever I try to access the root folder of my site(to put a MOD in for example), I get a 403 Forbidden error.  What's going on?  I'm very new to phpBB and PHP, by the way..

You must use an FTP software such as Fetch, Filezilla, etc.. to connect to your site to upload/edit files. You should better to contact to your hosting provider to get more help.

Thank you.  I've followed your instructions and got an FTP client.  But whenever I try to connect to my website, it gives me the error:
[10:23:20] 331 User ILikeKillAndYou OK. Password required
[10:23:20] PASS (hidden)
[10:23:20] 530 Login authentication failed
What do I input for the password?
