I'm having difficulty with the Captcha as well.  I created my forum (http://jtdh2005.freeforum.ca/index.php)  a couple of days ago.  The Captcha has 5 options available as plugins,  but the only one that will work is the GD 3D Captcha, which is nearly impossible to read.   For my own account, it took five tries to get a Captcha I could read to register.

I would prefer  to use the Captcha without GD, but would even be happy to use the  Q&A Captcha.  Unfortunately, no matter which option I choose, after clicking "Submit" and returning to the User Registration page, it has defaulted back to the GD 3D Captcha.

Is there any solution for this?  Thank you, in advance, for any assistance in this matter.

For reasons of security and to protect your forum so   we only allow the  use of GD 3D Captcha option. In the coming days, we will   use reCaptcha option.

Thank you.
Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

If that's the case, I may have to choose a different forum, as the current choice is nearly impossible to read, and those who are attempting to register are becoming frustrated with trying 10-15 times to get the code correct.

Thank you for the information.

Hello,

Please be advised that captcha must nearly hard to read to deter spam from auto spam bots and protect your forum in other cases. If it's ease to read, I think you don't need to turn it on because it's helpless. The re-captcha, the strongest one so far will be available in next days and will easier to read a bit.

Hope you understand. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you.

I understand about not having spammers and spam bot registrations. Since I've had the forum which has been for almost three years I've had to delete numerous known spammers from my forum! I was contacted tonight by somebody who was trying to register but was having great difficulty doing so because he couldn't read the captcha code! I went to the captcha module and tried to reconfigure it and quickly realized that the config function was disabled. I didn't know the captcha format had been changed and I couldn't read the code either! lol I don't know how lond this new captcha format has been in place but what concerns me is I wonder how many people have tried to join my forum but gave up because they couldn't read the captcha code! The whole idea of making a forum grow is getting new members not discouraging them from joining because they can't read the code! I hope this issue is resolved soon!

I changed captcha back to GD CAPTCHA for your forum. We currently have some issues on migration to recaptcha, we will set it to recaptcha when everything prepared.

Its already November and still same problem, the only change i can make in CAPTCHA settings is amount of attempts.
I can understand you prefer secure registrations, but isn't it up to board administration how much work they want to have with their forum? Forum i created isn't used mutch and some people get "thai lottery" instead of CAPTCHA-image, i would prefer Q&ACaptcha since i need only persons i know to be registred on forum so  they can "get" password from me.
Is administration so afraid of massive spam registration or just dont want to get database grow much ?

Thank you for doing that but now it is too easy for the spammers to join! I have had to delete many spammers since September that have joined my forum! I've had this forum for 3 three years and have never had any problems with spammers joining like this or with people who legitimately wanted to join until now when the control was taken away from me with the CAPTCHA function!:???:

GD Captcha is one of the best i have found , you can
A/ make it as hard as you want
or
B/ make as easy as you want

I take it you think its a bit difficult for new registrations ?

if so go to ACP >BOARD CONFIGURATION > CAPTCHA module settings >Configure CAPTCHAs: > configure
>GD CAPTCHA foreground noise: = No
>GD CAPTCHA background noise x-axis: =25
>  GD CAPTCHA background noise y-axis:= 25
 >GD CAPTCHA wave distortion: = No
 >Add 3D-noise objects: = No
> Use different fonts: = Default
submit

the options GD CAPTCHA background noise x-axis:  and GD CAPTCHA background noise y-axis:  dont work  but i guess its all good then
