The backup/restore feature

Hi,

the feature which allows us to backup/restore our site does exactly what?
in other words, if we fetch a backup, what is in that backup?
and say we lose all our data from our site, can we restore it using the saved fetched backup?

it's save's all settings, posts etc basically everything.
