Question not able to change sigs. "menu has been disabled"

when the members of my forum try to change their signature, they get an error message that says "menu has been disabled" or another message that says something about a function being mismatched (or something to that effect). i checked the admin control panel but couldn't find an easy fix. help please?

thanks!

forgive me if i sound like a complete moron, but i took over running this forum for a friend of mine so i might have a couple of dumb questions:

in the admin panel i saw nothing that said "General Settings." However, under "System Settings" the subcategory "user profiles" has the option "allow HTML in sigs" and the NO box is checked and the max length (in bytes) for user sigs is set at 1000. Oh, and the "allow IBF Code in sigs" is checked "yes."

Is this my problem? and if so, what do i need to change? thank you in advance for all your help
